Bakhoor is a traditional incense commonly used in the Middle East and South Asia to perfume clothing, homes, and public spaces. Here are some general guidelines on how to use bakhoor:
- Choose a suitable container: Bakhoor is usually burned in a special type of incense burner, also known as a mabkhara, made of ceramic or metal. The mabkhara has a hollow base that is filled with burning charcoal, and a small tray on top to hold the bakhoor.
- Prepare the charcoal: Use a pair of tongs to hold a piece of charcoal over an open flame until it starts to glow red. Once the charcoal is hot, place it in the mabkhara and wait for it to turn white and ashy.
- Add the bakhoor: Place a small amount of bakhoor on top of the charcoal. You can use your fingertips or a small spoon to sprinkle the bakhoor on the hot charcoal.
- Enjoy the aroma: Once the bakhoor starts to smoke, you can wave a fan or piece of paper over the mabkhara to distribute the scent throughout the room. You can also just let the bakhoor burn on its own and enjoy the aroma as it fills the space.
- Store properly: To store your bakhoor, keep it in an airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture. This will help preserve its fragrance and prevent it from drying out.
